 Originally from Minnesota and now accepting in-person clients in Houston, Texas, I spent most of my childhood caring for my younger nieces and nephews. As I learned more about career pathways and how I could be the one catching the babies coming into this world, I knew I found my path- Midwifery!! I adore helping moms with the emotional and physical support they need to come into their power. As a doula, my job is to help educate, encourage, advocate and hold space for YOU to have a conscious & empowered birth experience.

In terms of my birthwork certifications and trainings, in 2008, Midwife and elder Shafia Monroe trained me as a Certified Doula with International Center for Traditional Childbirth (now National Association to Advance Black Birth). Although I felt so overwhelmed by the amount of information we learned in 4 short days, my exposure to midwifery changed the course of my life. I decided not to attend medical school for the OB/GYN pathway, and instead- opted for a gentler path to helping beautiful souls be born. It resonated so much more with my spirit because I knew I didn’t want to do surgery and OBs are highly skilled surgeons first. They save a tremendous amount of lives and I honor their gifts. But I felt such alignment with being a doula and continuing to learn the path to becoming a midwife. I’m constantly seeking fun birth related topics (symptoms of womb dis-ease in the body, placenta encapsulation, breastfeeding, calming ways to hold space for a laboring woman), and in 2015 I became a Certified Perinatal Educator through Common Sense Childbirth and Midwifery under the guidance of Jennie Joseph, Millicent Simenson and Akhmiri Sekhr-Ra. Finally, in 2021, I was trained by Gail Tully and received my Spinning Babies Certified Parent Educator training.

I believe in the woman's body and our ability to shift and make room for life. Your body is a gift carrying a miracle! Sunshine Mama Doula Care was birthed out of my recognition that women are longing for a sacred and supported pregnancy and post-partum with the knowledge and plan necessary to prepare for this tremendous life transition. I approach birth holistically, and I feel honored to be able to share years of expertise with women and their families around Houston and the globe with my virtual services.
